Check out the local markets in Parksville this summer

Whether you need gifts, home decor, or delicious local produce, Parksville’s markets have everything you need. We may be a small town, but we have multiple local markets happening this summer where locals and visitors alike can mingle, shop, and support the local community. Check out just some of our ongoing markets below:

Second Sunday Market | Second Sunday of every month

Just as the name promises, the Second Sunday Market takes place on the second Sunday of every month from 8 am to noon. Check out up to 70 vendors at the Lighthouse Community Centre (less than a half hour drive North from Quality Resort Bayside). The market features handcrafted gifts, second hand items, and much more. There is also live local entertainment and a pancake breakfast with pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage, and coffee, tea, and juice for just $8.

Summer by the Sea Market | Every Tuesday from June 11 to August 27

Downtown Parksville lights up on Tuesday nights with Summer by the Sea! From June 11 to August 27, head to this market every Tuesday from 6 pm to 9 pm to shop, hang out, and connect with the community. There’s always an “eclectic mix of local merchants, artisans, craftspeople, farmers, entertainers, and of course food vendors”! What more could you ask for on a balmy summer night? You can shop for gifts, eat a delicious dinner, and take home some great local produce while supporting our Parksville community and businesspeople.

Parksville Museum Market | Every Friday from June 28

Starting June 28th and continuing all summer long, check out over 45 vendors every Friday night at the Parksville museum starting at 5 pm. This market boasts everything from food, produce, and tasty treats to flowers, gifts, and more. This is all set right next to the Parksville Museum’s historic buildings, which are open for visitors. Another great way to spend a summer Friday night!
Local markets are one of our favourite things about summer, and we are so excited to show off their amazing produce, delicious food, and talented craftspeople to all of our guests at Quality Resort Bayside. Just picture it: a cozy room with an oceanfront view, a trip to the market for shopping and ice cream, and maybe a dip in the hot tub to cap off the night. We can’t think of any better way to spend the summer!

Although Vancouver Island is famous for its tourist season in the summer, winter can also be an equally enjoyable time for all ages! There is always a new event to attend or a new trail to discover. Parksville in particular, definitely has no shortage of wonderful activities worth indulging in! Read on for the best upcoming events and activities...

Island Special: Long Walks on the Beach

It’s no secret that Vancouver Island is the land of a slower pace of life, farmers markets, and long stretches of beach - at Rathtrevor Beach Regional Park, you get beach scenery that rivals that of Tofino, but even more well-maintained, and with less rain. When it does drizzle, you’ll find that the shoreline is conveniently sheltered with trees to leisurely walk under, so as to still be able to enjoy the view undisturbed.

Explore the Land Down Under

For an activity unlike any other, the traveller with a thirst for adventure will want to visit the Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park - here, you can rent a kayak or canoe, hike, bike, spot wildlife, go fishing in crystal clear waters, or explore caves. Professionally-guided tours can open your eyes up to amazing ancient fossils, crystal formations, or even the only cave slide in all of Canada! Finally, for the daredevils only - a ‘5 hour extreme cave tour’ is available, where you can rappel down a 7-storey underground waterfall! Now that’s a vacation you won’t forget!

All the Shiny Things

For those of us that can’t get enough of things that sparkle, you’ll want to make a point to see the Parksville Mineral and Gem Show! There, you can admire, learn, and buy some of life’s most precious stones, all in one convenient space! There will even be a prize draw at the end ; so don’t miss out!

For a truly excellent weekend getaway, we recommend our gorgeous oceanfront rooms, and indulging in the best in-house hotel restaurant you’ve ever had - Our Bayside Bistro and Lounge provides casual dining with fresh seasonal and local delights, curated by some of the best chefs on the island. Afterwards, relax in our hot tub before cozying up to bed. We hope you enjoy your stay at the Quality Resort Bayside!

If these upcoming events are any indication, Parksville is fast becoming one of Vancouver Island’s top destinations for arts and culture lovers. Two events this summer offer visitors a feast for the eyes with exhibits that feature artists from both near and far.

Monet ReVisited

The McMillan Arts Centre presents Monet ReVisited from July 21st to September 1st. The exhibit will feature glass works inspired by the legendary impressionist paintings of artists Claude Monet from artist Robert Held. Come to witness how Monet’s garden subjects are given new life in the versatile medium of glass. This exhibit will run alongside Light – a showcase of art and photography works by members of the Oceanside Community Arts Council that play with the element of light.

ArtWorks 2018

Looking for a way to spend Labour Day weekend? Consider making a trip over to Parksville for Artworks 2018, a two-day art festival held right at the Quality Resort Bayside.

Artworks provides a unique opportunity to view a range of different 3D and 2D artistic creations and to engage with the people who made them. Attendees to the festival will get the chance to learn more about the process of creating art with workshops, demonstrations and panel discussions on a number of thought-provoking art-related topics. The festival will be held on the September1st and 2nd, and passes can be purchased by phone or at the Parksville Visitors Centre.

After the festival, you can take an extra day to relax and enjoy all of the amenities at the the Quality Resort Bayside. The resort’s idyllic waterfront location is the perfect place to cap off the weekend with a day of rejuvenation. Enjoy a swim in the pool or enjoy a meal and ocean views at the Bayside bistro and lounge

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with some fresh air, exercise and absolutely stunning scenery. The Oceanside Mother’s Day 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk, sponsored by the Oceanside Running Club and benefiting the Parksville Haven Society, is happening on May 13th (right on Mother’s Day). The event is more than just a race. There will be plenty of prizes and amazing food to enjoy too. Participants can truly make a day of it.

The 10K run course takes runners through the breathtaking Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, known for its magnificent old growth trees and spectacular ocean views. There’s something for every run enthusiast here, as the course is part trail and part road. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the age categories.

Those seeking a more leisurely experience will enjoy the 5K Run/Walk course, which makes it way through the scenic Englishman River Estuary. While there will be awards given to the first three participants that cross the finish line, there is no real rush here. Run, jog, stroll and take it all in.

If you’re interested in taking part in the event, it’s a good idea to register early. Those wishing to take part in the Oceanside Mother’s Day 10K Run or 5K Run/Walk have until midnight on May 10th to register online. If you register by this date, the cost is $30. Anyone who chooses to register on race day will pay $40.

Once you’ve registered for the Oceanside Mother's Day event, be sure to book an oceanfront room in Parksville at the Quality Resort Bayside. We offer comfortable rooms, a heated pool, racquet courts and all the striking natural beauty you can stand. It’s the ideal way to unwind after such an active day.

My family stayed at your lovely hotel on Friday, July 16th. I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the room, beautiful dining room and friendly staff. The rate was attractive for a family travelling on a budget and having breakfast included was the icing on the cake! The kids had so much fun swimming, skim boarding, golf, visiting Coombs and many more activities. I am telling everyone I know of the lovely accommodations and fantastic staff. Thank you to Bayside Inn! You have just earned a loyal customer! Lisa; Victoria, B.C.
